St Afan may have been a Bishop at Llanbadarn Fawr in Ceredigion (Cardiganshire) in the mid-west. He may have been murdered by Irish pirates. His tomb can be seen in the churchyard at Llanafan Fawr though the tomb itself is not earlier than the thirteenth century. The church was apparently a place of pilgrimage and of at least one miracle.
