Saint Eleri Abbot

Reposed 670 Remembered June 13

St Eleri built two monasteries at Gwytherin in Conwy, one for men one for women. His mother, Theona, became abbess of the women and after her St Winifred. The place was an ancient holy place with very old yews and standing stones still upright. One of these stones was reused and inscribed by a Christian family of the fifth or sixth century.
