St Padarn (Paternus) came from Brittany and seems to have evangelised along the Roman roads among the Roman settlements going northwards. He founded an important monastery at Llanbadarn Fawr on the coast near Aberystwyth in Dyfed, mid Wales, which became famous for its learning. There is an early cross in the church with a figure on it which may be St Padarn.
He founded a monastery at Vannes and is considered one of the seven founder saints of Brittany.
