Saint Tydfil or Tudfal Martyr

Reposed 480 Remembered August 23

St Tydfil (Tudfal) was of a woman of royal lineage is said to have been martyred at Methyr Tydfil in Glamorgan south Wales by a marauding party from Ireland. Others think the marauders were British pagans i.e. the Saxons. The fight, such as it was, was probably very small and local. She is generally believed to have died where the church was built. Many miracles are said to have taken place around her grave and her shrine became a place of pilgrimage.
