Saint Decuman Martyr

Reposed 6/7 century Remembered August 27

St Decuman is said to have been born in Wales. He crossed the Severn and settled as a hermit near Watchet in Somerset where St Decuman’s is named after him. He was attacked by a pagan who cut off his head. Like any decent person he washed it and put it back on. A 7th century date is given him though a 6th one may be better.

There is a restored holy well in his honour at Watchet.
