St Mawes (Maudez) gives his name to this small town opposite Falmouth on the Roseland peninsula. There is a holy well in the town.
He is much venerated in Brittany as a bishop, along with his disciples St Budoc and St Tudy. He and his companions settled on an island called Modez near the coast of Leon where traces of a beehive hut can still be seen. He became famous as a teacher.
