St Paul Aurelian was a royal from Wales, a disciple of St Illtyd at Llantwit Major, of St Samson at Caldey Island and of St Gildas. He founded the church at Paul south of Newlyn in Cornwall. A cross shaft is embedded in the church wall
He then went to Brittany and founded a monastery of Finisterre, and others on the islands of Ushant and Batz and at Pol de Leon where he became bishop. His bell is still there.
He was one of the Seven Founder Saints of Brittany. His stole can still be seen in the church at Batz.
