Saint Fintan Abbot

St Fintan was a hermit trained at the great monastery of Terryglass Co Tipperary by St Colum, another of the twelve apostles of Ireland. He founded the monastery of Clonenagh, Co Laois.

His holy tree was famous; it had a water-filled groove in one of it’s lower branches which never dried up; it also had many coins inserted into its trunk. The main tree eventually died and but today new shoots have appeared…
