Saint Mochta Abbot

Reposed 537 Remembered August 19

St Mochta has a British name and may have been another one who came from Britain with St Patrick. St Adomnan in his Life of St Patrick calls him “a British stranger, a holy man and a disciple of the holy bishop Patrick”. He was also a priest and is said to have founded a monastery at Louth. On the site is a remarkable intact small stone church.
