St Rhuadan was another disciple of St Finian and one of the twelve apostles of Ireland. He was abbot of the monastery at Lorrha Co Offaly where the 8C Lorrha Missal, otherwise known as the Stowe Missal, was produced. It is now in the National Museum of Ireland.
He also founded the remote monastery of Derrynaflan in the middle of the bog in Tipperary. It is worth finding the way across the bog but to your consternation you may find yourself confronted by a couple of bulls. A valuable 8/9 century hoard of church vessels was found here in 1980 using a metal detector.
