St Senan (‘little wise old man’) founded the great monastery on Scattery Island in the Shannon in Co Clare. He evangelised all around the coast of Co Clare making numerous foundations. Included in these was the hermitage on the top of a sea stack now called Bishop’s Island. Scattery is a feast in its own right and for once the landing is easy. His oratory and grave (‘bed’) can be seen. He too was regarded as one of the twelve apostles of Ireland.
