Saint Cattan or Chattan Abbot

Reposed 6C Remembered May 17

St Cattan was an Irish monk who with his nephew St Blane founded the monastery at Kingarth on the tip of Bute in Argyll. The present chapel is 12C. He also founded monasteries on the islands of Colonsay, Gigha and Lewis.

On Colonsay is a most intriguing 8C cross of a style familiar in Ireland but here the figure itself and the croos seem to be one. All told, quite haunting.
