St Duthac was a native Scot though he may have been trained in Ireland. He was known as the ‘Chief Confessor of Ireland and Scotland’. He died at Tain in Ross and Cromarty; his body was found to be incorrupt.
West of Tain St Devenic’s cross marks the grave of an earlier saint who also evangelised in these remote northern areas. He died in 887.
Further west at Kincardine a fine Pictish gravemarker with carvings can be seen indicating the prosperity this area must have had long ago.
