Saint Fillan Abbot

Reposed 8C Remembered January 9

St Fillan was from Ireland who laboured in Strath Fillan in West Perthshire in Scotland between the Bridge of Orchy and Crianlarich. He founded a monastery and his pool became known for curing the insane.

There is a cave in Pittenweem in Fife which is named after a St Fillan; however there may well have been more than one St Fillan, so it is not clear whether it is connected to the saint above or not. The cave has now in service as a chapel.

The Orthodox Church now serves the liturgy at Shiel Foot
