Saint Maelruba Abbot

Reposed 722 Remembered April 21

St Maelruba was a monk from Bangor Co Down who set off with other monks and founded monasteries in Pictish territories. If the setting of Loch Eynort on Skye wasn’t absolutely superb, Applecross in Ross accessible only by sea is amost literally out of this world.

He was a very popular saint in north west Scotland after St Columba.

There is a large stone cross still standing at Applecross but it was not finished. Could it be that the Vikings were sighted and everbody ran?
