Saint Werburga Virgin

Reposed 699 Remembered February 3

St Werburga was a royal princess of Mercia became a nun taught by St Etheldreda. She succeeded her mother St Ermenilda and her grandmother St Sexburga as wel as her great aunt St Etheldreda herself. She was buried at Hanley but was removed, body intact, to Chester during the Danish invasions. Her shrine, shattered at the Reformation has been reassembled.
