Saint Alcmund (Derby) Martyr

Reposed 800 Remembered March 19

St Alcmund was killed in battle about 800 and was regarded as a martyr. His remains were taken to Derby because of the Danes. Road works recently uncovered a splendid 9C stone sarcophagus which may have been his and can now be seen in Derby Museum.
