St Foillan was another Irish companion of St Fursey and St Ultan who lived at the monastery at Burgh Castle. St Fursey, in face of raiders, went to France where he lived as a hermit but St Foillan had to endure the pillaging of the monastery. Having paid ransom for his monks and recovered the relics, St Foillan shipped all that he could to France.
