Saint Lawrence Bishop

Reposed 619 Remembered February 3

St Lawrence was a member of Pope Gregory’s mission to England. He was made bishop after St Augustine and experienced great difficulties because St Ethelburt’s successor went back on his faith and reverted to paganism and took many nobles with him. Eadbald’s desire to marry his father’s widow may also have had something to do with the problem. Lawrence was regarded as a saint after his death.
