Saint Birinus Bishop

St Birinus was a Frank who came to England in 634 and set about comverting the Kingdom of Wessex. He first founded the church of St Mary’s Southampton and asked Cynegils, the King of West Saxons, to allow him to preach. He later baptised the king and became the first Bishop of Dorchester.
