Saint Lioba Abbess

Reposed 782 Remembered September 28

St Lioba was born in Wessex and her virtue and holiness came to the attention of St Boniface. He entrusted a great deal to her. She planted monasteries and took a leading role in evangelism. Bishops consulted her and she had high favour in the court of Pippin III. She was soon recognised as a saint and miracles took place at her tomb. Her relics are behind an altar of a church in Petersburg, Fulda.
