St Walburga was the daughter of St Richard of Wessex. She spent 26 years as nun at Wimbourne Abbey in Dorset. She went to assist St Boniface in his mission in Franconia – he was her mother’s brother – becoming a nun at the double monastery at Heidenheim founded by her brother St Willibald. After his death she became abbess.
