Northumbria

The introduction of Christianity into Anglo-Saxon England was tied into the fortunes of their respective kingdoms: Northumbria, Kent, Mercia, Lindsey, East Anglia, Essex, and Wessex. The monasteries too were highly involved, because they were founded by members of royal families some of whom lived in them: the monasteries were an integral part of the Anglo-Saxon political, religious and social system.
