Saint Dwyn or Dwynwen Ascetic

Reposed 7 century Remembered January 25

This saint is said to have belonged to the family of King Brychan. She was another who ran away from a suitor and became a solitary on Llandwynwen island off the west coast of Anglesey. This lovely place became a famous place of pilgrimage, and, being remote, devotion to her carried on long after the Reformation. The ruins of the medieval priory can still be seen. There are 3 or 4 wells in the area and there is some debate as to which is St Dwyn’s.
