St Aedh Mac Brice was a hermit who had his cell on the top of Slieve League Co Donegal, drawn no doubt by the fact it is one of the old sacred mountains of Ireland. His stay may only have been in times of fair weather – the gales rond here can be ‘volcanic’. His other place was at Killaghtee down below. The track to the top should not be attempted by anyone afraid of heights. The area is much ruined because of the number of Penitential stations created for pilgrims. He was also a bishop in Killare Co Westmeath.
