Saint Acca Bishop

Reposed 740 Remembered October 20

St Acca was a Northumbrian and a friend of St Wilfred. When St Wilfred was restored as bishop of Hexham, St Acca become abbot of the monastery there. When St Wilfred did he was made bishop in his place. He was vigorous in all things and was famous for his learning. For some reason which we do not know at some time he laid down his duties. Nevertheless he was revered as a saint immediately after his death. Two fine crosses stood at the head and foot of his grave.
